League Table
Match reportsPInley 17 Newbold 43The first match in the newly formed 2nd XV league saw Pinley at home against a Newbold Vets team. The start was dissappointing with Pinley looking more like the visitors still in their cars, for the 1st half. Newbold using a strong centre combination battered their way over and when stopped shipped it wide. Pinley's defence struggling to cope with this, allowed 5 tries in the 1st half. Captain Steve Hines had some words to say about the situation at half time and Pinley started the 2nd half on the offensive. Tries came in from both the forwards, Tom Mountford's 1st for Pinley from a set piece penalty move, and the backs from a jinking run from Tom Peakman (wing). Newbold scored a try back but Pinley's defence had tightened up and fitness was beginning to tell. Several close calls eventually saw a try out wide for Pinley again from a mazing run from the wing. The match was a clear lesson to Pinley at 43-17 final score, but with a second half balance of 17-5 Pinley need to work to establish themselves earlier in the match. Old Warwickians 12 Pinley 33 Losing 12-7 at half time Pinley brought on Andy Cooke whose presence helped inspire Pinley to win the second half 24-0 with the aid of some inspired kicking from Leigh Stratton and some fantastic solo runs by the backs especially young starlet scrum half Ashley Hancox. Alcester 20 Pinley 10 A 50/50 mix of old heads and young legs journeyed to Alcester. A scrappy match to start was mainly dominated in the loose and scrum by an experienced Alcester pack. Several early penalties conceded by Pinley saw the home side 10-5 up at half time. Pinley rallied in sections of the second half but lacked the cohesion between backs and forwards to create concerted pressure. A well worked chip from veteran Steve Hinds, was collected and run 50m in by young Tom Peakman for his 2nd try. However too late as the final score was Alcester 20, Pinley 10.
